Reuniting Pets and Guardians

If you are looking for your lost pet, check here:

Special: Now through October 31, 2010:

Many lost cats that enter our shelter are not reclaimed by their owners. In an effort to increase our rate of reuniting guardians and pets, we are waiving the reclaim fee (for housing and medical care while at the shelter) on all cats during the months of August, September and October. However, donations are gladly accepted. This is a potential savings of $120 if your cat is at the shelter for 5 days. Additionally, we are offering discounted spay/neuter and microchip fees for reclaimed felines. We hope that these efforts will reunite more pets and guardians and help prevent the loss of your cat again in the future.

Thousands of lost and stray animals are reunited with their guardians through our computerized lost and found services. If your animal is lost, please contact us immediately so we can file a lost report. Be prepared to provide our staff with a detailed description of your animal, including where your animal was last seen, color of collar and type of tags.

At the Humane Society of Boulder Valley, we want to ensure the health and well-being of all animals in our care. Each year, the Humane Society handles over 2,000 stray animals that come through our doors. Because we have no way of ensuring the vaccination status of these animals, HSBV has made the decision to vaccinate all animals - dogs for DHPP and Bordetella and cats for FVRCP - when arriving at our shelter. Vaccines help to protect stray animals while they wait at the shelter to be reunited with their guardians and inhibit the spread of communicable diseases through out our community.

If you feel one of our found animals belong to you, please call (303) 442-4030, ext. 660 or visit the shelter at 2323 55th Street in Boulder. You may also send an email to ServiceDesk@boulderhumane.org.

Please note that this email account is checked once daily by shelter staff. Should your inquiry or request require more immediate assistance or involve an animal available for adoption, please call the shelter at 303-442-4030, ext. 0 to speak to an Animal Services Associate. Phone operators are available during regular business hours, which are from 11 am - 7 pm on weekdays and 10 am - 5 pm on weekends. The Humane Society of Boulder Valley is closed on all major holidays.

We encourage guardians of lost pets to check online or visit the Humane Society's Lost and Found center at least every 48 hours to see if your animal is here. Telephone information alone may not be sufficient to identify your animal. We urge you to visit the Humane Society in person to positively identify your animal. Bringing a current photo will help with identification. Your visit could help expedite a reunion with your pet, as animals often lose their collars and tags. If your animal is at the Humane Society, it will be held for five days. After five days the animal will become property of the Humane Society of Boulder Valley

Boulder County Animal Control utilizes both the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and the Longmont Humane Society for impound services for lost pets. Boulder County Animal Control will be taking animals found north of Hwy. 52 (Mineral Road) to the Longmont Humane Society and animals found south of Hwy 52 to the Humane Society of Boulder Valley. It is important to contact both the Humane Society of Boulder Valley and the Longmont Humane Society when looking for your lost pet. The Longmont Humane Society is located at 9595 Nelson Road in Longmont. Phone is (303) 772-1232 and website is www.longmonthumane.org.
