Community Resource Center : Thrift Shop and Book & Jewel

Our Thrift and Gift Shop has a new name, expanded purpose, and fresh look! We are excited to have you visit us at our Community Resource Center (CRC)!

The CRC campus includes our Thrift Shop building, and the welcome evolution of our donation processing building into a community gathering and cat adoption space, Book & Jewel. Our Thrift Shop will continue to have gently used household and seasonal goods — thanks to your generous contributions — while Book & Jewel will provide a separate space for great finds like books, jewelry, and art. All proceeds from our Thrift Shop and Book & Jewel shops benefit the animals and programs of HSBV! Both the Thrift Shop and Book & Jewel will also be extending compassion to our neighbors around our CRC campus by providing community support for those in need of Safety Net support services, such as Food Share, Senior Support, Safe Haven, Medical Access Fund, and other pet care resources. Thanks to your life-changing support, your donations will ensure we can continue to help our neighbors when they need it most!

Donation Center Updates

We are eager to accept your gently loved home goods to help raise critical funding resources for the animals of HSBV! The Community Resource Center (CRC), including our Thrift Shop and Book & Jewel, will accept your “spring cleaning” donations to help raise life-changing funds for the homeless pets in our shelter.

Here are the items we are currently seeking to help us restock our shops:

Furniture: We love to have a great selection of home furnishings for our shoppers, including our thrifty student population. Items should be in good functioning condition and without major cosmetic flaws. Of course, vintage and antique pieces are often a bit more shabby, and that’s okay!

Home Goods: We rely on our donors to provide functional equipment as we do not test items prior to sale. Appliances and tech items should be complete, clean, and reliably operational. We also appreciate your donations of kitchen, bath, and home office items!

Books & Jewelry: Our little shop, Book & Jewel, relies on your donations of gently loved books and jewelry! We do not accept encyclopedia sets, magazines, or old text books; all other books in reasonable condition are greatly appreciated!

Artwork: Many shoppers visit us for artwork exclusively. We love to fill the walls with unique pieces – and these donations are a major fundraising arm of our business so remember us when you update your collection!

Outdoors: We gladly accept camping equipment, lawn and patio decor, manual tools, and garden supplies. Our shoppers are ready for warm weather adventures and fun in the sun!

Pet Supplies: Yes, please! Wire dog kennels, soft-sided cat carriers, toys, leashes, and collars are big sellers! Our shelter team encourages adopters in need of “starter kits” to stop by for affordable pet items for their new friends.

Clothing, Footwear, and Linens: There are a lot of unanswered questions regarding the handling of “soft goods” during this COVID-19 period. As a result, we will be extra selective about condition and type of clothing, footwear, and linens that we sell at this time. To boost our ability to transition your donations to our retail floor, please be selective about what you donate, launder, and sanitize items prior to drop-off, and understand that we will be giving priority resources to seasonally relevant items at this time.

In an effort to reduce risk to our staff and shoppers, please wipe and clean your donations prior to drop off. We will be sanitizing all donations upon receipt as well. We also kindly ask that you do not abandon your donations on the CRC campus or at HSBV outside of donation hours. Abandoned items are costly and resource intensive to dispose of, and detract from our efforts to raise funds for the animals and programs of HSBV.

Thank you for your support through your donations and choosing to shop at our stores!
