The Humane Society of Boulder Valley (HSBV) is thrilled to announce the appointment of Kat Burns, CVPM, CAWA as its new Chief Executive Officer (CEO). Kat brings a wealth of experience to her new role, including 25 years in animal welfare – 19 of those being dedicated to HSBV and the community it serves. As a champion for animal welfare and with a track record of visionary leadership, Kat most recently served as our Director of Veterinary Services – overseeing our full-service public veterinary hospital and facility operations.
Kat steps in to lead HSBV into its next chapter while enhancing our mission to protect and enhance the lives of companion animals by promoting healthy relationships between pets and people. As CEO, Kat now oversees all aspects of HSBV, including programs, operations, fundraising and strategic planning.
She officially assumed the role of CEO on January 1, 2025.
“I’m honored to be named CEO of HSBV and work alongside such a dedicated team of staff, volunteers and supporters. Together, we will continue to provide safe shelter, lifesaving veterinary care, and training and behavior support to animals in need,“ said Kat. “I also look forward to collaborating with the community to further our mission, giving animals the second chances they deserve, and continuing to make a lasting impact on the lives of animals and the people who love them.”
Kat stepping into this role marks the beginning of a new chapter for both HSBV and the future of animal welfare advocacy in Boulder and Broomfield Counties.
